Life is busy for everyone. Whether you are working for a company or yourself. You can be raising a family, or doing all of the above. Whatever the case, it’s busy and it can be easy to lose track of the time that is spent simply winding down.
You need time for your activities, hobbies, and passions. You also need downtime to de-stress and breathe. What would you be doing if you had more time away from the daily grind or at least a break from it for a bit? Let’s figure out how to get more time in our schedules for just that.
Take Back Your Time
I have to admit, creating a morning routine has helped me to make some time for myself. That routine looks like brewing a cup of tea and taking time to enjoy it while listening to my favorite podcasts or reading a few pages of a book.
Speaking of books, it never hurts to find a literary escape. It’s good to dive into another world for a bit and leave the stressors of life on the back burner for a minute. It may even change the way you approach those particular stressors.
Throughout the day, take mini-breaks. That could look like taking a walk outside your office or taking a stroll to the office kitchen to make a cup of tea. It’s always a good idea to take a break from sitting and a break from staring at a screen.
Healthy relationships are essential. Prioritize them and spend time with your friends. It can be hard when you’re juggling a family and all the activities that your kids are in. I have been trying to schedule a dinner with a friend for a while now. We both have kids with super busy sports schedules and have been comparing our calendars for a good date for both of us. Still, it’s a priority and we kept trying until we found a day that works.
When it comes to your self-care, make time for it. Whatever that self-care looks like for you – find time to actually make it happen. Reading is self-care for me, so I make time, sometimes in the morning but mostly at night. Exercise is also self-care for me, so I have a pretty regular time in my schedule to make that happen too. I know that if I don’t create the time, it won’t happen.
At the end of the day, all of these are ways to take back your time. It is necessary so you don’t feel like your life belongs to everyone else but you. If you’re creating pockets of time and taking them for yourself, you’ll feel more balanced and like you’re caring for yourself.
