I don’t know how many times I’ve whined and complained about feeling old (I’m sure my husband knows) and like I’ve lost my swagger since becoming a mom. I know I’m not alone (message boards tell me so) and I’m always on the hunt for advice to get my swag back! That’s where an interview I stumbled upon comes in handy. Celeb and mom of four Brooke Burke recently sat down with whattoexpect.com to dole out some advice for moms. I think she was promoting her site babooshbaby.com Side note, I used the tauts tummy thingy and I think it also helped in taming the post baby tummy. I know many people look at Brooke and think “well if I had her money…..” I think she had some good things to say about taking care of ourselves and still making sure we’re making ourselves a priority. I’m so guilty of putting myself on the back burner. Until recently, it had been WAY too long since I’d seen the inside of a beauty or waxing salon! Next on my list is the gym and the occasional nail salon visit. Slowly, I’m working on getting me back. Here’s a snippet of the interview with Brooke Burke:
WhatToExpect.com: So many moms are looking for advice on how to get their “sexy back.” Do you have any wise words?
Brooke: It’s a great question. I really believe feeling sexy is a state of mind. Our bodies change when we have babies, but if you are lucky, work hard, and take care of yourself, I really do believe that you can get your body back. But it’s really about how you feel. I think that women need to embrace that time when they’re pregnant, and after they have a baby, they need to accept the set of changes because it’s a beautiful thing. I loved being pregnant. One piece of advice I can’t stress the importance of enough: me time. And even though we’re in unfamiliar territory, it’s all about the baby, and, you’re lowest on the totem poll — and then there’s your husband who has never done this before, either — you really need to take time with yourself to do something physical and start feeling good so you don’t completely lose sight of who you were before you became a mother.
WhatToExpect.com: You have four children and look fabulous! Do you have any quick and easy exercise tips that a mom can do during her baby’s nap time?
Brooke: I did Pilates, which I really liked because it’s not that strenuous. I felt it strengthened my core, which made for an easier delivery. I still do Pilates. But I know that feeling of being too busy. There are so many great things you can do while your baby is sleeping — floor Pilates workouts in your home on a mat, brisk walks with the stroller, and wearing your baby. It’s so important for moms to carve out that me time, get out of the house, and get fresh air with your baby. You can go online and find so many great exercises. As your baby grows and gets heavier, it gets more difficult, of course. I also eat five times a day. I try to eat small meals because it helps your metabolism and keeps you from binging. 99% of it is what you eat, really.
WhatToExpect.com: What would your must – have product on the site be?
Brooke: The absolute must-have, and I feel it’s really the first purchase after delivery, is Tauts. The concept of wrapping your postpartum belly has been around for thousands of years. I got back into shape quicker, faster, and easier with babies number three and four because I wrapped the heck out of my belly. Tauts is a compression garment you wear for 40 days and nights. I slept in it. It helps your uterus shrink, and reminds you to sit up right, hold your belly in, and retrain all those muscles. That, for me, is my mommy must-have. It’s natural, and really easy — really worth it. I did a lot of international research; I couldn’t find a great product in the U.S., so I developed one. The reason I created Baboosh Baby is because I wanted to share all these beauty tips with other women. You’ve got to give yourself the best shot of getting your body back. It’s an amazing shower gift.
I think she offers some pretty sound advice. I agree with what she says about working out (whenever I can get around to it again). I went the Pilates route as well while trying to get pregnant all the way through my pregnancy. I think it helped me to get my shape back. I have all of these DVD’s that I want to get to when I find time to work out – getting to a Pilates studio is harder to do these days. Overall, there are some nuggets in here I can stick in my back pocket for getting my pre-mommy swag back. What do you think about what she had to say? Have any tips of your own to add?
I know this can not render much sense to all your needs except the indisputable fact you point out straight-forward
things like just changing a couple of fast points to achive the goals you will definitely need make actually is a
bit more efficient than I had thought originally.
