Trying new things rarely gets a “no” from me. I’m usually up for the challenge, whatever it is. Usually. Some stuff is just an automatic no though. Like, I don’t know – things that might kill me, things that are disgusting, and things that I’d never want to admit to now or in the future. I like to think that whatever it is, if I do it, I can own up to it. If I can’t, then maybe I shouldn’t do it. This is the best case scenario, anyway.

When you look at all the stuff you do and all you're committed to, how much of it really serves you? How much of it is just taking up space? I've got some easy steps to get you to that next glow up!It wasn’t until the last few years that I was introduced to a new idea. New for me, that is. Tell me if you’ve heard of it before. The idea is doing a life edit. What is a life edit, you ask? It’s a pretty simple concept really. It definitely speaks to me considering my background as a writer. It’s simply the process of taking inventory of your life and switching things up to remove any dead space. It’s the perfect set up for your next glow up!

To do a good edit, you need to go over every area of your life and decide what works and what doesn’t. Doing an assessment of your life helps to make you more effective, productive and definitely happier. I’ll take an extra dose of ALL of that!

How do you edit your life for a glow up?

First, think about what you want? What makes you happy? Is there something that lights you up? What in your life checks off those boxes?

Take a look at your commitments. Are you overcommitted? Are you still doing something just because you said yes to it but it no longer serves you? If it’s not necessary, maybe it’s time to let it go.

Now look at what you’re taking in. I’m talking in terms of information. Are there a ton magazines, catalogs, email lists that you’re getting that you never have time to read. Are they just collecting dust and/or taking up space? Release them, ma’am!

Let’s look at your money, honey! I was talking to a friend recently who mentioned keeping a money journal. She said that she was going to start a practice of writing down everything she spends money on. Whether it’s a cup of coffee or clothes – think about writing it down so you’ll know exactly how you’re spending your money and if you’re really OK with it. If not, you know what to do.

Now let’s look at your goals/dreams. If your list includes writing a book, hosting a tv show, launching a podcast, opening a boutique and writing a blog – pump the brakes! It’s great to have so many things you want to do, but we both know it’s not all happening at one time. Choose what you’ll give your energy to and commit to it. Don’t move on to the next thing until you make progress on the main thing. I know it can be hard to resist the shiny penny syndrome, but you can do this!

It really helps to go over your life and fine tune it. It’s so easy to get caught up in doing what we’ve always done, that we don’t always notice what’s become dead weight.

Have you ever done a life edit? What’s your best tip for prepping your life for the next glow up?

  4. I love the idea of keeping a money journal. That way you will know exactly where those pennies and dollars are slipping through the cracks!

  5. Great tips! Staying organized in every aspect of your life is the first step to leading a stress free and happy life in my opinion.

  6. I tend to have too many goals on my plate and then end up doing nothing so I can really relate. I like the idea of focusing on one thing at a time.
