I have a confession to make. There’s something about me that you should all know. Something that makes me different from most people. When I share my secret, most are appalled. Prepare yourself: you’ve been warned.
I don’t drink coffee. (The shock, the horror)
There, I said it. It’s out there and I’m not taking it back. I have never been a fan of the black nectar. It just hasn’t appealed to me. The only way I can even stomach the stuff is if it’s “a dessert”, according to my husband. Yes, I can only drink it if it’s got all kinds of other stuff in it that practically drown out the flavor of the coffee bean.
I am surrounded by people who can’t get enough of the stuff. From family to colleagues. It’s everywhere. You should see the mob of people who leave my office to head across the street to Starbucks. It’s epic. My husband recently converted. By recently I mean, when we became parents. Coincidence? I think not. Not long after we had our son, Gevalia was delivering a coffee maker and boxes of coffee to our door. Interesting timing, don’t you think?
I know people who NEED to smell coffee first thing in the morning to get their day going. I smell it in the morning and it does nothing for me. I’d prefer to smell some turkey bacon or tea or a nice waffle. Coffee, not so much. I think I can trace my dislike of coffee back to my childhood. (Mom, stop reading now) My mom used to drink her coffee… wait for it… black!!! Just add water and stir! I had the nerve to taste it and ACK!!! WTH!!!! Why on earth was she drinking this stuff. It’s like poison!!! So all you coffee lovers, blame her, she ruined me!
Any other non-coffee drinkers out there or are you all feigning for your next cup as you read this?
You are not alone. I am a proud non-coffee drinker too. Like you, I add flavor and sugar until yes, it’s dessert-like. It just does nothing for me. I’ve tried, really tried to be assimilated. I wanted to walk the streets of DC like everybody else with a Starbucks cup. I wanted to eat the pastries, sit in the big chairs, tap on my laptop. Sadly, it was not meant to be. Sometimes it smells good to me (like cookies!) but ultimately, I’m with you. Can I get some oatmeal or grits or french toast and bacon? That’ll get me just as far as coffee — and without the crash.

I did not always like coffee…it all started with the Starbucks latte…and then that was so expensive…so I learned to like coffee. I take mine with a splash of milk or creamer and a little sugar. I think coffee is also better if it’s a good brand. I won’t hate on you that you don’t like coffee…b/c the smell of bacon will always get me up too! 🙂

Me, me, me…I hate coffee! It doesn’t taste good no matter what you put in it. All of my co-workers drink it to stay up while we are working! Coffee actually makes me sleepy!

I was like you too until I discovered coffee creamers. It makes a world of difference.

That’s what I hear… it’s all about the creamers.

I can’t have plain coffee either. I only drink it if it’s “a dessert” too, I guess. Like, I’ll take a caramel frap or a caramel macchiato or a vanilla latte any day. But not regular coffee. Doesn’t taste good to me.

I don’t drink coffee either. I can’t stand the stuff. Now I do drink the latte from Mickey D which is something like coffee…I think.

I never drink straight coffee! But I will have a coffee drink ever once in a while… more often now since I don’t sleep. I like tea better. I am so happy I can function with out it!

All of my co-workers drink it and NEED it. My parents start their days off with it. I’m good. lol

It is ridiculous how much I love coffee…Cutting it down to less than a cup a day has been brutal! Ha!

I like coffee. I like it black too if it’s a good quality coffee.

I was never a coffee drinker until my first trip to Vegas with my husband for his 25th birthday. I quickly realized I was not going to make it in that city without coffee. Now I maybe have 3 or 4 cups of instant a week, still a lightweight I think! I have a cup when I need a little extra jolt.
