Skunk streak. That’s what I’ve been calling the white hairs that appear in the front of my head – right in the middle. At first, I was taking my grey hairs in stride. I definitely thought it was a little early for me have them. I talked to my dad about my new hair and he said, “now you know how I felt at 15.” OK. Point made. I guess I should consider myself lucky it took them this long to show up. Still, they went from being cute to being a bit annoying. I just don’t think they match me. Does that make sense? Physically, I feel like I’m in my late 20s or early 30s for the most part. My hair tells a completely different story though.
I know so many people who have fully embraced their grey hair. They even refer to it with cute names and call it glitter streaks. I tried. Mine don’t lend themselves to cute names though. Ha! Over time, I had been more and more interested in taking the plunge to color my locks. The thing is, it seems like something you have to be committed to. The grey only stays covered for so long, you know? I wasn’t ready to sign up for regular hair appointments for color. The other big issue for me, I also wasn’t ready to sign up for the chemicals that come with coloring my hair. I try to be as natural as possible with the products I use on my body. From the soap to the deodorant and toothpaste, I’m an all natural girl. So, I was real skeptical about hair color.
No More Grey Hair
As an O Magazine Insider, I had the opportunity to try Naturtint hair color. It’s a plant based permanent hair color. I loved that they offer a more natural alternative to coloring my hair. Without hesitation, I dove right in. I was ready to tackle this grey hair and look like myself again. Lucky for me, the process was easy breezy. Let me show you what I looked like before I colored my hair.
You see how they just stick up and do their own thing? They have the nerve to be rebellious! I was more than happy to wave goodbye to these little stubborn rebels.
I love the way the color turned out. My hair looks darker but after a few washes it was more of a reddish brown. I gave my two cents on the Naturtint hair color to O Magazine and you can check it out in the May issue on newsstands now!
Are the grey hairs starting to make an appearance in your hair too? Do you color your hair? I’ll be doing a drawing from the comments for one lucky reader to win a subscription to O Magazine!
Disclaimer: I was provided Naturtint hair color. The comments and opinions are my own.
Yes, and yes! I’ve had grey hair since my early 20’s. I have only recently started battling it.
I think you look wonderful with the streak and without but I hear you. I’m in my 30’s. I’m not giving in to it yet!
I’ve been meaning to cover my greys. I don’t have a ton but the ones I do have kink up while the rest of my hair is bone straight so they are super obvious.
My greys (that I can see) are at my temples and don’t bother me too much. My son says I have a bunch of grey hair in the back of my head. Since I didn’t care, I haven’t really looked.
I colored my hair in my younger days — no really will to commit to that again. LOL
Maybe I will worry about them more when I get older but until then…
Oh I color my hair! My grey’s are super resistant! I love that this is a plant based product. I’ll have to check it out! I’ll also have to check out your thoughts in O! I have my copy right here!!!!
Luckily no grey here yet!! But it won’t be long before I hit my 40s and I’m sure it will pop up LOL
WOw you are gorgeous. I like that this was an easy way to fix the grey. You look amazing.
I understand your pain. I started going grey at 15 and have been coloring ever since. Your color looks amazing.
What a great product! I am really careful with what I use on my body as well so natural products are the way to go for me. I’ve had a few grey hairs pop up recently so I will have to try this!
I have a few grey hairs poking out but it doesn’t bother me too much. My husband on the other hand hates when he sees one. It is nice to know there is a option out there to help color those pesky grey hairs. I used to here they were so hard to color.
I am right there with you, I have grey hairs popping up too. I am all for embracing the grey hair, but feel like 32 is just not the time to let it happen. I have started coloring my hair and love the results! I like how the color turned out for you!
I dye my hair for the same reason. I think we hit that certain age where we embrace it, but I’m not ready yet.
Been going gray since I was 19! Keep up the good fight lady!
I don’t have grey hairs on my head, but I do have a grey eyelash which is odd and every now and then I’ll notice a grey hair on my arm or something. When I do start to have grey hairs on my head and they’re rebellious lol, I’ll definitely color them.
My cousin is the same way! She’s in her early twenties and getting plenty of greys already. I get why you would want to cover it up that early on. She actually started just adding blue to her hair haha. This is definitely a more practical solution.
Your hair looks great! I have a couple of stray gray hairs, I try to only dye my hair 1-2 times per year. Fortunately they aren’t really noticeable to people in the meantime, lol.
Cute look! I sure do color my hair. I only have a few grays popping up so it’s not a big problem though I color them anyway.
Ugh, this is timely for me. I’ve been battling grey as well!
I have heard people say it is hard to cover their grey hairs especially when they get a whole head full. I like it. I think it’s pretty but you look great with the dye as well.
Naturtint sounds like a great product. You hair looks amazing!
My mom started going grey at 12 and I have a sister and brother who went the same route. I think I’m a weirdo because I’ve always wanted a grey streak. I have quite a few popping up now in my hairline and some in the middle of my head. I also love to color my hair! Anyway thanks for providing info on this particular brand of color. I’ve never heard of it before today but I love the fact that it’s natural.
I’ve heard great things about this product. I’m starting to see more grey hairs and I’m trying my best to embrace them.
I love your streak of grey. I think it looks good and grey seems to be in style for hair color these days.
I have about 10 grey hairs right now. I lpve them. I know not everyone is in to so do what works for you. If that means color, go for it. I am curious to see what I will look like with a full head of grey hair.
You are crazy gorgeous – greys and all!
I have some unruly greys as well! I definitely could use some color in the front they’re totally taking over! I need to try to find this hair color!
I haven’t gone gray yet, but my husband has tons of gray hair. I love how you are embracing it and doing what you like to make yourself feel pretty. You look great either way.
As a trained hairstylist I am very leery of any and all box colors.
You look so beautiful with your grey. But I feel ya. I have a couple of them popping up and they are the most unruly things ever. LOL!
