Let’s flash back for a moment here. There are many things I remember about my childhood. I remember having to be in by the time the street lights came on, playing with Barbie dolls for HOURS and falling in love with all types of music. When I was growing up, hip hop was pretty new. It was also rooted in fun. There’s a little bit of that left these days. A little. I guess. I don’t listen to much of it now. I know enough to know that it’s not what it used to be. Many of the artists on the radio I wouldn’t be cool with my kids going to see in concert. That wasn’t so much the case when I was little. So much so that my first concert was, you guessed it, a hip hop show.

Forget Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz, I went to see the Fat Boys!!!

Tell me you remember them? They were all kinds of awesome! I remember them being a huge deal – no pun intended. There were in movies like Krush Groove and Disorderlies. I was a little girl but I remember being obsessed with these movies. I watched them over and over and over. I also remember having a crush on one the Fat Boys. I loved some Prince Markie Dee. I remember going to their concert with my cousins. I think the Fat Boys shared the stage that night with Run-DMC and some other acts. For real, old school.

Thinking about that concert has me thinking about how long its been since I’ve been to a concert. I need to change that! What was your first concert?

  1. Yes, I remember the Fat Boys!
My first concert was R. Kelly and LL Cool J. We had awesome seats. I remember R Kelly had a bed on the stage at some point and a hole in his wife beater! LOL

  2. Yes, I loved the Fat Boys! They had that “Wipeout” song, right? I loved the hip hop of the 90’s. I honestly don’t know what it’s like these days just because I don’t listen to the radio (on my walkman) anymore much.

  3. It would have been awesome to see Run DMC live. I remember hip hop being more fun and playful when I was little too.

My first concert was Linkin Park and Stone Temple Pilots. I didn’t get to go to a “real” concert until I was in college. 🙂

  7. LOL. I had a crush on Prince Markie Dee too!! 🙂 I think my first concert was The Boys. One of my younger sisters had a crush on Hassan I think his name was, and cried when he pulled a girl on the stage to sing to her. She really thought he was her boyfriend. Fun times.
