It’s that time of year again. In a year that has been like no other, it can be hard to look toward the future. The last week alone has thrown us all off. What is really going on? What’s next? Even though we’ve gotten really used to this Groundhogs Day existence and living through a historical moment each day, there’s no harm in looking for a brighter day. Let’s look, okay? I haven’t jumped full on and bought a planner but I am getting to work on a vision board.
It’s Operation : Get My Life Right over here. For the last few years, I have been telling myself that I was going to create a vision board for myself. I’d done one a couple of years straight but I fell off. I know so many people that swear by them. Admittedly, the years that I did one, they made a difference. I didn’t do one for 2020 and uh, yeah. The biblical notion of writing the vision is totally at play here. So, I set out to “write” my vision out and see what comes of it. After this year, I’m laying out some pretty big goals on this board!
I own way too many magazines! So, the first step of clipping images and words was easy and overwhelming all at the same time. It was overwhelming because, as I mentioned before, I have too many magazines! I bought enough poster board for my kids to do boards too. I’m thinking it will be a good project for them. I didn’t know anything about vision boards when I was their age. That’s the whole point of parenthood though. It’s always a goal to expose my kids to things I wasn’t exposed to as a kid. I want them to be more enlightened than I was. Eventually, I want them to be more successful too. Those seeds will be planted now.
Laying out the vision
It took me a few days to cut things out that spoke to me. Once I had all that I thought I needed, I got my daughters crafting supplies and went crazy with the glue stick! I felt like I was watching things come together. It was like just looking at the words as I glued them to the board made these goals feel closer to reality. Putting this board together felt like I was putting some action behind my desires. It’s one thing to say what we want. It’s another to take a step toward it. This is step one.
Here’s what I ended up with. I want to frame it and leave it in my office. If it’s in my office, I’ll have no choice but to look at it everyday. I’m in there daily since the room is shared with my gym space.
The board focuses on my fitness, family, business overall. I can say that I have already been making some progress in a couple of areas. I’m working to get all things in motion. I’m excited and hopeful!
Have you done a vision board? What do you do to keep your goals in your face and on track?
