People always love to ask you what do you like to do?
It’s a great ice breaker when meeting someone and trying to get to know them. That question alone will give you an idea if you have anything in common. Some might even ask what you don’t like to do? The question no one asks is what don’t you know how to do? The answer to that question could tell you a lot too.
That’s the question I’m answering today as a part of Mama Kat’s writer’s workshop. Here’s what I can’t do – feel free to offer me lessons.
- swim – I know I need to learn… like yesterday!
- crochet – I can knit though
- play piano – I wanna learn so bad!
- skateboard – all the cool Cali kids do it
- play tennis – Venus and Serena make it look cool
- surf – This could come in handy. I mean, the beach is only 15 minutes away.
- drive a stick shift – I need to learn. Those cars are cheaper.
- stop dreaming – I can’t do it. You can’t make me! *sticks tongue out
- train a dog to fetch – My dog can’t fetch. She plays keep away. I blame us.
- do just one thing at a time – I am a queen multi – tasker. I’m not sure that’s a good thing.
What don’t you know how to do?

Never stop dreaming. If I lived closer I could teach you to drive a stick shift. I actually miss driving one. I don’t know how to crochet either but I would love to learn!

Nice list. I count my blessings my Mom sent me to swimming lesson and that I took typing in high school. (old school manual typewriters) Knitting is more useful then crocheting (I crochet and it’s hard to make clothing stuff with it.)
Yup, driving a stick is worth it.Once you learn and are practiced, shifting becomes a instinct you don’t even have to think about.

When you learn to drive stick, make sure you have a teacher who won’t yell at you 🙂 Much trickier to not stall when your passenger is screeching, “let out the clutch…easy! No, slowly! NO not that slowly!”
Argh :p

I don’t know how to drive a stick either! And have no intention of learning!
I can’t swim either!! And I took swimming lessons as a very young girl. I def want to learn as well. I’m planning to sign my son up for lessons this summer and keep him swimming so that he doesn’t end up like me!

I don’t know how to swim either and I grew up right by the beach. I want to learn but I am to scared to get into a bathing suit at my weight so I will wait. I can play the piano….keep that on the low. I would like to learn how to use my camera better I am just not technology savvy.
You should definitely take a surfing lesson. It’s surprisingly a lot easier than you think. KILLER work out too. Not that I’m an expert or anything but I did it once on a trip to Hawaii and was surprised that I was actually able to stand up on the board several times.

Ha! We have a similar list, but for diversity sake I bet I can think of a few more.
I don’t know how to:
sew – at least not well enough to have the kind of confidence that makes me think, “I can make that.”
make pot stickers – yum, I really need to learn, but it looks time consuming and complicated and that intimidates me
use a table saw – again, something I really really want to be able to do with confidence, but I am totally and utterly intimidated and sure I would saw off several fingers if not an entire limb…ouch and ewww

I don’t know how to swim but I do know how to float! 😉 oh well, it only means that we are not perfect and we are simply loved by the people in our lives no matter what we can and can’t do. 😀 I was able to reflect on what I don’t know to do too… anyways, I just love myself. Though she’s not that good. 😀
