This past Sunday was one of those days for me. It was so good. It was all about my little guy. Man, I love that little boy so much! We were hanging out at home and I had been feeling kind of blah. Being seven months pregnant is taking its toll and I’m wiped out… a lot. I still wanted to make sure I got in some good one on one time with my baby boy. So, I told my husband that we were going for a little walk before I put him down for a nap. He LOVES to be outside so this was right up his alley.
We walked and talked and jumped around the block. We pointed out shapes and snails and cars. Then, he started pulling me in the direction of the playground. It’s the next block over. We stopped at the pool and checked things out. I promised him we’d spend some time there this summer. Then he dragged me (literally) over to the park. He kept saying, “Mommy, the slides are this way. Let’s go to the slides!” So, off we went.
I wished that I had captured every moment on film. He was SO happy. He climbed, jumped, played in the sand and any thing else he could think to do. He made friends with the other kids and wanted to do everything the big kids did.
When it was time to go home he was still full of energy. So as I walked, he ran through the grass ahead of me and turned around excitedly screaming, “Mommy!”. He ran back to me and my arms were wide open ready to scoop him up. That was the absolute best! It was one of those times where I thought, “is this really my life?” It just felt like something out of a story book. The cool thing is, it was real and it was simple. It was as simple as me talking my baby out for some bonding time and playing at the park. That kind of happiness is free and freeing.
I’m looking forward to more days like that. Days when I know that his smile is all I need. I’m looking forward to sharing those same moments with his little sister. Life isn’t perfect, but this Sunday – in those moments, it was pretty close.
What a beautiful post, that made me literally feel warm and fuzzy. Children are such a JOY, a joy that is so hard to explain to anyone who isn’t a mother. Its so beautiful when we take the time and step back and enjoy our children.

Such a GREAT time with your son. 😉
sounds like a sweet day 🙂 the other day i read that one of the ways God reveals himself is through children.. i think that makes sense, when you think about how accepting, and naturally loving children are. and they always force us to stay present, have fun, and enjoy what’s right in front of us.

“is this really my life”….LOVE THAT! What a perfect reminder of the greatest gift, the greatest joy we are privileged to be a part of; our kids. The rat race wears on our souls and I think we can lose sight of what is important so easily. Nice that those bear hugs, smiles and words bring it all back!

There’s nothing more fulfilling than realizing you have a loving family. And there’s nothing more comforting than your child’s hug.
