This was not a normal weekend. Not by any stretch of the imagination. I had a million things to do. I had meetings and events to attend. I was swamped with things to get done. All of my things to do and meetings to attend absolutely paled in comparison to what as happening at the Palace of Auburn Hills.  It’s not only the place where my hometown team, the Detroit Pistons play. The Palace is also the place where my mother officially became a college graduate.

gradThis weekend, my mother capped off years of hard work and graduated from college! I have to be the proudest, most inspired daughter ever. I’ve watched her journey over the years and it’s been quite a journey. There have been disappointments – credits from a former school wouldn’t transfer, work schedule didn’t work with class schedule. She pushed forward. Her ambition for a degree didn’t include starting a new career. Especially now that she’s retired. This degree is just for her. It’s something she wanted to do with nothing to prove to anyone but herself. Not only did she keep at it and push forward but she rocked it. Mom graduated with a 3.4 GPA! If it sounds like I’m beyond proud, it’s because I am.

If you follow me on Facebook then you know that I am a huge believer in going after what makes your heart happy. I believe that’s it’s never too late to go for what you want and find and follow your passion.

never too lateIf there was ever any question of where I get my inspiration to live life on my own terms… you now know my source of inspiration is a woman I simply call Mama.

  1. Oh man, credits/courses that don’t transfer are the worst! I’ve seen credits transfer too, and they didn’t transfer all the way (like 2 credits transferred instead of 3) making the student have to take an entire class over to meet the deficiency.

Big congrats to your mom for persevering through it all and getting to her goal line!

  2. Absolutely beautiful story about your Mama! Thanks for sharing it and congrats to her! Im sure she has inspired a lot of people over the years, too!
