Motherhood is a classroom and my teacher is about three feet tall and overflowing with lessons. I never knew I’d love so much or learn so much from someone who has seen so little. I couldn’t have imagined the ways my son has changed me. Here are a few things I’ve learned from my little love bug.
- Playtime is a priority – This kid knows how to have a good time. Whether it’s going to the park, walking through the mall… get out of the house and do something that I don’t have to take too seriously
- Make your voice heard – He’s very good at LOUDLY making himself heard. He’s reminded me that no one will know what you want, what you can do or what you’re about if you don’t tell them
- Belly laughs are good – He literally cracks up at the smallest things. I’m learning to let go, throw your head back and crack up when the mood strikes
- Learn and use the word “no” – He could teach a master class on this one. I’m still learning…
- Learn something new everyday – I’m amazed at how much he’s learning. He’s truly a sponge and soaks up every bit of information around him. It’s beautiful to watch
- Keep Growing – While he’s growing out of his clothes at lightning speed he’s also growing more aware of who he is and the world around him
- Ask a million questions – This is another master class in the making. I’m guilty of not asking enough questions sometimes. My baby boy however, needs every detail of everything over and over again.
- Eat well – We obsess about the things we feed him. From things being natural, organic to making sure he has something from all food groups. It made us look at what we were feeding ourselves and to eat more like the way we feed him.
- Don’t be afraid to get dirty – No matter how cute he is when I send him off to school, I know he’ll be filthy when he gets home. That’s alright with me because I know he had a good time! I don’t stress at all about sitting right down in the dirt with him and having a good time. Whatever I’m wearing can be washed. 🙂
- Trust is earned – This kid is not won over easily by strangers! Thank goodness. It’s a lesson that bears repeating.
- Keep your friends close – Elmo is never far behind. See above picture. Nuff said.
- LOVE – I call him my little love bug for a reason. He is the epitome of love. I have learned what unconditional love looks like through him and that’s the lesson I’m most thankful for.

Belly laughs are the best!
My kids are now teens & preteens and they STILL ask a million questions and want all the details!
It’s amazing just how much we can learn from our children! My daughter’s a toddler, and I feel like she was already shown me so much about the world, human beings, and myself.
And, I agree with your son, playtime is a priority!

It really is a beautiful thing learning from your little ones…being able to teach them to be fun loving and well adjusted adults, and sometimes realizing that Daddy needs to really watch his mouth around them when your 4 year-old steps in a creek while camping and exclaims “Holy sh*t! That’s cold!!!” *sigh* Motherhood is nothing if not a humbling experience (c: Hopefully we don’t screw them up too bad!
It’s amazing how we can go through life without a second thought about what we’re putting into our bodies (even though we ASSUME it’s healthy) and then once baby is born realize that you’ve been lying to yourself. I can not believe the chemicals I’ve literally been dumping onto my plate under the idea that it’s good for me. No more! Not for me or my baby thank you very much!!!
Hell to the yeah about getting dirty. My kids totally had to re-teach me this. I forgot how fun it was.

This is SO great! Isn’t it amazing what we learn from our children?! There are so many great lessons here — get down and dirty (yes, clothes CAN be washed!), have FUN, ask questions, and make your needs/voice heard! So so true.
