This was intended to be a cute picture of a mother and her son and a sweet moment between them. Well, apparently everyone doesn’t feel that way and it’s all because of his toes. The creative director of J. Crew, Jenna Lyons, is dealing with a swell of controversy for this picture with her son because his toenails are painted pink. In a feature on the J. Crew website called Saturday with Jenna this picture appeared with the caption “Lucky for me, I ended up with a boy whose favorite color is pink. Toenail painting is way more fun in neon.” Her decision to paint his toes pink didn’t sit well with the folks over at Fox News. They argue that she’s setting him up for issues with gender identity. I have to admit, I would do a double take at a little boy his age with pink toes and might mistake him for a girl with the long hair and all. What are your thoughts? Do you take issue with the picture or do you think Fox News should mind their business?
As in everything with Fox News, I wish they would just shut up.
true – so very true.
I am a horrible mom then. When my 13 year old was between the ages of three and five he liked to wear my high heeled shoes and wear my make-up. He is not currently a cross dresser and knows he’s a boy. My four year old plays dress up,tea party and will wear high heels for his younger sister. He even wants his nails painted with us, although he prefers green. What happened to kids just being kids? Oh horror of horrors I also let my kids go to the store with me in their Halloween costumes any time of the year if that is what they wish to do. Unless they are 13. Gotta draw that line somewhere.
i felt like the photo was just supposed to be an innocent moment shared between mom and child. who knew it would cause an uproar?
My friends and I call Fox News “gator haters.” If you listen to them and not God and your motherly instint all children would be in a world of trouble. I think as long as the boy is young and knows who he is fingernail polish is ok. Boys play house 🙂 Boys dress up!
