I was checking skimming though the boards at Café Mom and came across this note from another mom.
My husband’s nephew says that girls at his school are trying to get pregnant to get on 16 and Pregnant
This is what it’s come to, huh? When I started noticing all the Teen Mom stuff I thought the whole thing was being a little to glamorized (admitting I haven’t watched the show) and now this. It should not be much of a shock, right? Not too long ago there was buzz about a pregnancy pact high school girls made. There was even a movie made about it. It’s clear that these girls have no clue what really goes into being a mom and trying to be a good mom is a whole other beast. Becoming parents is the best thing my husband and I ever did. It’s also the most stressful. We love every second of it – as stressful as those seconds can be. At no point though have we looked at each other and thought, “this is a piece of cake.” We should do this again to hopefully get on TV. I guess that’s where the wisdom of not being 16 comes in. What do you think of girls trying to get pregnant in hopes of making it on TV? Have we created this beast with all the reality shows we crank out?
Wow, this is just crazy to me. I admit I watch Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant. Honestly if I were a teen it would make me want to never have sex and get pregnant! You know, until I was ready and married or whatever. But seriously, it isn’t like they show these girls living glamorized lives! They show them being cheated on by their boyfriends (most not all for all these statements), having a hard time finishing high school and going to college. They show them barely able to make ends meat, working 2 jobs, being kicked out of the house by their parents. I just don’t see what is so great about that. IDK, I agree all of these shows on tv about teen moms has made the whole teen pregnancy thing not so taboo anymore…good? IDK, bad IDK that either. I wish tho that while doing these shows they would EDUCATE more…anyways…
I am following you from the blog hop!! Thanks for following me!!:)
Stacie – Even though I haven’t watched the shows (or any shows really) I feel like the intent of these shows is genuine. I think that the purpose gets lost in translation at times when kids are seen as “celebrities” instead of real people struggling with real stuff.
Obviously that 16 year old girl has not watched the show or she doesn’t understand life real well. I agree with Stacie most of those mothers don’t have freedom and are working entry level jobs and sometimes two jobs to make ends meet. That is not a way to live your life. Most REAL mothers want more for their children. Thats why God did design for children to have children. I know some girls have made a mistake and then they usually will tell others don’t make the same mistake as me.
Wanda – I think that it’s pretty silly for any teen, or anyone for that matter, to want to have a child for the purposes of being on TV. I think sometimes, teens don’t look past the immediate and they see that these people are on TV and that seems exciting.
