Writing Prompt: A list of 10 old TV shows you’d like to make a comeback.
I have watched WAY too much TV over my lifetime. I have taken a break since mommy hood took over but the memories…. They still remain. I have too many favorite old shows to mention. For me, the oldies are definitely the goodies! Here are the Top 10 old shows I’d LOVE to see make a comeback!
1.) Three’s Company – how could you not love Jack Tripper and his ladies! The blondes seemed to have a revolving door but Janet was the keeper that stuck around. There were so many great characters. Mr. Furley was classic. Mr. and Mrs. Roper were hysterical. Who could forget Mrs. Roper’s dresses!
2.) A Different World – this is the show that inspired me. It gave a view of what college life looked like. It solidified my decision to attend and HBCU. It was such an accurate portrayal and I wish a show like that existed today to get kids interested in college. It changed my life.
3.) Living Single – it was a continuation of what started with A Different World. It was all about these single, professional African-American ladies. They were all achieving different levels of success and it was inspiring as well as funny!
4.) Lipstick Jungle – why was this show taking off the air so swiftly! It was excellent! Before knowing it would be a television show, I started reading the Candace Bushnell book of the same name. I loved the characters and once it became a TV show, I was beyond excited. I loved Brooke Shields and the other ladies. It was my new obsession and then… it was gone. It’s not really and “old” show but, it still needs to make a comeback.
5.) Sex and the City – again not an old show but it was soooo good. I don’t know if the show could come back with the old characters but some variation of it would be great. The writing on the show was so good. When it left the air, it was missed by every lady I know!
6.) Cheers – One word : Norm! This show was classic. I loved Sam and Diane. Woody was the most lovable idiot! Norm was a full-on alcoholic but I still loved him. And how could you NOT love sassy-mouthed Carla!
7.) Doogie Howser – I had the biggest crush on Doogie. NPH shattered my dreams when he came out. Oh well, it wouldn’t have worked anyway – I’m married.
8.) Mad About You – GREAT TV! I love Paul Reiser! He’s so freaking funny. Helen Hunt is awesome. I thought this show was perfection! I already wanted to live in NY and I knew when I got there I would find people just like them! The birth of their daughter, Mabel tanked the show. Unfortch!
9.) Girlfriends – Great show, great characters. Fun, witty and just good TV. I miss it so…
10.) In Living Color – Sketch comedy was forever changed with this show. It was beyond good and produced so many top-notch stars. From Jamie Foxx, Jim Carrey and Jennifer Lopez – In Living Color was the launching pad. Even the re-runs are roll on the floor funny.
Fun list! I think I watched every single episode of Cheers growing up.
It’s not so old, but I would love to see the show FireFly come back. I’m not usually a sci-fi fan, but that show cracked me up. 🙂
Cheers was so good. Did they ever really leave the bar?
Homey the clown… don’t mess around.
that was one of my favorites!
Also, I’m embarrassed to admit but I tried to find NPH’s phone number through 411.
HA! it’ll be our little secret!
I forgot about Mad About You. I loved that show. Another show that I loved was Life Goes On.
Life Goes On! Oh wow, I remember that! Great show. Now I have the theme song in my head!
How could I forget about Sex & the City. The writing was great! I wouldn’t mind seeing that comeback with new characters, but would it really work? & if they did bring it back – there could be no other Samantha, she was one of a kind.
Reading your list & your mention of Mad About You made me remember Will & Grace!! I enjoyed Mad About You, too, but Will & Grace was stellar comedy! I miss it!
You’re right, I don’t know if new characters would work. Guess I have to stick with re-runs!
Ha ha good ole Doogie Howser! I also loved the Wonder Years 🙂
Wonder Years was one of my favorites too!
Hey wait, didn’t Doogie Howser “blog” at the end of each episode?
I think you’re right! He was way ahead of his time!
I am loving reading all these. I did this prompt too but as I am reading more and more of these, I am being reminded of so many shows I loved but had forgotten.
We saw some old reruns of In Living Color a couple of months ago and I laughed until I cried. And it was so wild to see J.Lo as one of the fly girls!
I know I feel the same way. I keep reading others and being reminded of more of my favorites!
Great list– I would LOoove for Girlfriends to come back– that Joan was a trip!
Joan was the best!!!
I wish Sex and the City would come back on TV but not anything close to what the second movie was. That was a terrible movie.
the second movie was SO disappointing. That’s the last movie I’ve seen actually. How sad. 🙂
Lipstick Jungle. I can’t believe I didn’t put that one on my list. Definitely in my Top 20. I loved that show. I don’t understand at all why it got canned.
I still get a kick watching episodes of A Different World. WHITLEY!
LOVED Lipstick Jungle!
Cheers! Doogie Houser!
Forgot about Mad About You and Threes Company.
i’m really missing good tv right now.
Girlfriends–sniff. It should’ve been giving a better send off then it got. I wanted to see Joan married!
A Different World–Great! I too wanted to attend and HBCU because of it. And I did. And it was pretty spot on too.
Love the rest of the list as well.
the Girlfriends send off was horrible! A Different World was so spot on!
I would love to see some more Sex & the City on TV-yes please! Same with Mad About You, that was a great show!
two of my favorite shows EVAH!
You recognize thus considerably on the subject of this matter, made me in my view imagine it from a lot of numerous angles. Its like men and women aren’t interested except it’s one thing to accomplish with Girl gaga! Your own stuffs excellent. At all times care for it up!
