When my kids were born there were some things I had to do. Prep the bassinet, stock up on diapers and get a letter from the White House!
Not long after having my son I had heard that it was possible to get a note to my child from the President. I thought that would be so cool, especially considering our President is the first African American to hold that office. I know what a treasure that will be down the line, for my son. So I went ahead and looked up how to make it happen. It was as simple as sending a birth announcement to the White House. Then we wait.
About six weeks later there was a note in the mail from Mr. and Mrs. Obama welcoming my son into the world. There may not be much else in his baby book, but that’s in there! So, once his sister was born I made sure to do the same for her.
There won’t be any fights about why he got a letter from the President and she didn’t! I love that they have a piece of history and the don’t even know it. My African-American children each have a letter that welcomes them to the world from the first African-American President of the United States! Love that! Honestly, who knows when this will happen again? Here is the information if you or someone you know would like to do the same for their children.
Send your birth announcement to:
White House Greetings Office
Room 39
Washington, DC 20500
Did you know about this?

So adorable! Yes, Madison got one in the mail as well. I found out about it a month after she was born. I framed it along with the envelope, and its hanging in her bedroom. 🙂

This is so neat. I had no idea you could do that what a nice thing to put in their book so they can have something of history.
This is so awesome! Is it too late to send P’s? Maybe they won’t look at the year!
