What has the last nearly twelve months looked like for you? Are you feeling the burnout yet. From what I can tell, many of us have hit a wall. I can hardly believe we’ve been in this pandemic that long. Yet, here we are. I started with some excitement because I would be home with my kids and having even more involvement in their education.

While life has slowed down, it hasn't gotten less hectic. With lockdowns, virtual school and the social media doom scroll - burnout is real.

Then we moved to the excitement of school ending and Summer beginning. Summer is usually filled with fun, camps, vacations and beach days. Of course, this year is was all about avoiding people and spent mostly at home. I had no doubt, early on, that we were in this for the long haul. Still – I didn’t think it would be this long.

I’m oddly OK with things. I am working on projects at home and creating some things. I’m teaching my kids some new things that we would not have had time to tackle before. In that way, this time is rewarding. It’s still incredibly scary. The unknown is always that way. While it feels like groundhog day everyday, the goal is to come through this whole, right?

It’s easy to get burnt out with doing all the things, all the time, always at home. Even if you work outside of home, there isn’t much going on outside of work and home these days. We’re all on this hamster wheel together. I’m pushing back against burnout as much as I can. I’ve got a few ideas to help you do the same.

The Burnout Cure

Calm your mind. A little meditation and yoga or just some good jazz goes a long way in helping you relax.

Get some sleep. Get into a routine to lull you into bedtime. Catch some extra zzz’s if you can on the weekends. Our kids are now at an age that we can actually sleep in. Honestly, I never thought this day would come. It’s glorious.

Be a kid again. Get some coloring books or puzzles. There a so many coloring books with really pretty designs for adults and some with affirmations. Do something fun just for you.

Plan your downtime. You know how you use your planner to organize your day? You make time for all the things you do to make sure you’re being productive. Put time in your calendar to relax. Just like a rest day is needed between workouts to be ready and productive for your next sweat session. Relaxing is also much needed and productive.

Take a social media break. It’s always a good idea to take a break from the doom scroll of social media. That’s really burnout central! It seems to be where we find out all the things that get our minds racing. Whether it’s the posed perfection of Instagram or the breaking news on Twitter – you need a break from it.

Make priorities. We all have a to do list a mile long. Everything on your list of things do is not a priority. Make sure you’re clear on what is a must do and focus on those.

What are you doing to combat the pandemic wall and prevent burnout?
