Yesterday, I was cleaning out my TV stand. My son has made it his personal storage area and it was getting out of control and looking a hot mess. My intent was to play a kid music CD for the kids but instead I got caught up in a cleaning project.
As I was cleaning the TV stand I came across our wedding DVD’s. Instead of listening to Yankee Doodle Dandee, my husband said, “Put in the DVD, let’s watch our wedding!” He was anxious to see our son’s reaction. It sounded like a cool idea, so I popped it in.
As the DVD played, my son started seeing familiar faces. He saw his grandparents, and his uncles. When he saw his grandma he got so excited and started jumping around. As my husband walked down the aisle, my son screamed, “That’s daddy!!” He was so excited. Of course, we were waiting for his reaction when I made my way down the aisle. Once I hit the screen, we waited… and waited for his reaction. Nothing. Figures.
So we said, “Who is that?” He said, “grandma.” Now I know I look a lot like my mom but…
So we kept nudging. He finally said, “I don’t know.” I’m thinking, do I look THAT different now? You don’t know your own mama? I guess he made the grandma connection because I was walking with his grandpa – my dad. He thinks that whenever he sees one of my parents, the other can’t be far behind.
Without prompting, eventually he says excitedly, “Mommy, that’s you! It’s mommy!” Ah,yes, it’s me. Finally.
As we watched our wedding, my husband and I couldn’t get over how young we looked. We were like, “Who are those people?” We looked like babies. It’s been nearly six years and two kids later. I think we still got “it”. Even if every now and then it seems like our get up and go – got up and went! That’s normal, right? LOL!
That trip down memory lane was fun. I’m looking forward to watching it again when they’re older. I’m sure the reactions then will be just as priceless. I just wonder if my son will still think I’m grandma.
So sweet!!!! I can’t wait for us to share the same experience with N!
love it

It is so fun and kind of funny to watch old videos. My parents gave us a video camera for our wedding so we have lots of video from the whole wedding weekend, it is fun to watch but yes makes me feel old- been almost 13 years for me!

How cute! I love that it took him a while to recognize you. I’ll see if I can dig out my wedding DVD and see my son’s reaction.

That’s so funny that he recognized everyone but took awhile to recognize you. Maybe it was the veil that threw him off? Either way, adorable story.
