We are almost at the end of the school year. I gotta say, we’re holding up pretty well. The kids have some days where we just threw in the towel. I’ve been keeping an eye on how they are holding up and when they’re about to hit a wall. Based on that, we had a few days when we had to have a home half day.

In this crazy and stressful time, my kids school book taught me an easy way to focus on my happy. Have you ever thought about creating a happy list?

While doing virtual school we came across this character exercise. It talked about things to do when you’re upset, frustrated or mad. I figured, it sounds like a worthwhile exercise with where we are right now. The exercise said to make a list of ten things to do to calm you when you’re mad. I’m all for giving my kids a toolkit to pull from to manage their emotions. The thing is, they’re not the only ones that could use a tool kit. While I’m pretty good at managing emotions, there’s not harm in giving it some intentional thought.

Reading through this exercise made me think of making my own list of ten things to do that make me happy. You know the opposite of mad, stressed and frustrated.

So here’s my list:

  • Read a book in a comfy nook (I’m currently creating a nook in my office solely for this purpose – see: start a new project, haha)
  • Enjoy a cup of my favorite tea (creamy Earl Grey)
  • Listen to an old favorite song
  • Watch something funny
  • Getting some sunshine
  • Hang with my family
  • Watch my kids be carefree
  • Call someone for great conversation
  • Start a new project
  • Finish what I start

What about you? What ten things could you think of that would take you from stressed to chill or that just make you happy? How are you keeping your stress level under control right now?
